Condolences
I wish to take an opportunity to pass on my sincere condolences to the Cook family on behalf of myself, my past Regimental Sergeant Major and the former and current serving members of 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron. I was the Commanding Officer from June 2004 to December 2006 and we had the rare opportunity to have Capt Howie Cook as our Guest of Honour on numerous occasions. He was indeed a great man and his stories of time served in the Canadian Forces were inspirational to the officers and soldiers of the unit. It is a sad time with his passing but we are glad to have gotten to know Howie and know that his spirit will live on in our hearts and prayers. Lieutenant-Colonel John Blythe, former Commanding Officer 1 CMBG HQ & Sigs Sqn
On behalf of the members of the Army Cadet League Of Canada - Alberta Branch, I would like to extend our sincere condolances on the passing of LCol Cook. He was along time CIC Officer & Commanding Officer of 2551 RCACCC in Edmonton as well as a founding member of the League. For this, we are extremely grateful and will always be thankful for his participation and hard work on behalf of all army cadets, present & past, in Alberta. Bill Hart President
Howie and I served in Rivers in 1948. I was in The RC Sigs as well as he. Then, much to our surprise we were on the first Senior NCO course held in Vimy Bks in Kingston at the School of Signals in 1950. A picture of that graduating class hangs on a wall in my house. It is with much sadness that I heard of his death. In deepest sympathy please remember that those cherished in thought and memory never really part.
