Kenneth BUCKNER

Obituary of Kenneth 'Ken' George BUCKNER

Ken Buckner, beloved husband of Betty, passed away on October 11, 2010 at the age of 86 years. Ken was born in London, England and came to Canada in WWII to train with The Royal Air Force. While training in Canada Ken met the love of his life at a Christmas dinner for servicemen in 1943. Ken loved to tell the story how sitting across the table from Betty, he knew she would be the woman he would marry and raise a family with. Married in London in 1946 they spent the post war years over seas before immigrating to Canada in 1948. Kens service in the RAF sparked his passion for airplanes, which led to partnering and building three full sized home built aircraft, the first of their kind in Canada. He was also an active member in the aero modelling community in Calgary for most of his life. Ken had several careers prior to founding Calgary Hobby Supply where Ken and Betty worked side by side for twenty-five years. After their retirement they had many happy memories at Sicamous Sand with family and friends. Ken is survived by Betty, his wife of sixty-three years; their three children: Rick (Brenda), Jim (Jean), Iris (Fred); three grandchildren: Marc (Mandy), Jillian and Jessica; two great- grandchildren: Kobe and Nicholas. Ken was predeceased by his parents and two sisters. A private family service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Suite 201, 222 58th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3, Telephone: (403)290-0110, www.alzheimercalgary.com, or the charity of your choice.
