Obituary of Ryszard Szewczyk

Ryszard Szewczyk, beloved husband of Jolanta Szewczyk (née Rutkowska) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the age of 68 years. Ryszard was born in Sosnowiec, Poland on January 30, 1951. Initially, Ryszard worked with architectural companies in Poland and Canada. Once a mature and established architect, Ryszard started his own company, Studio Stylowy Dom (Stylish House), which he owned and operated in Poland for over thirty years. He was a member of the Stowarzyszenie Architektów Polskich (Association of Polish Architects) and the Zwiazek Artystów Plastyków (Association of Artists and Designers). Ryszard accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his Nagrody Ministra Budownictwa (Prizes of the Ministry of Construction), several awards received in Poland and Canada, numerous articles about architecture in Polish architectural magazines, as well as numerous publications of his photographs. Ryszard had a passion for everything related to architecture and travel, from sightseeing and adventuring in national parks in the United States, touring historic sites and cities in Europe, to artistic and landscape photography. He also enjoyed jazz music, as well as playing the piano, bridge, volleyball, and soccer. Besides his loving wife Jolanta, Ryszard is survived by his two daughters, Aleksandra Szewczyk of Toronto and Katarzyna (also known as Katalina) Szewczyk of Dakar. Ryszard is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward Szewczyk and Jolanta Masojada-Szewczyk and his niece and nephew, Nina Szewczyk and Max Szewczyk of Sydney, as well as numerous cousins and friends in Poland, Germany, and around the world. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church (2111 Uxbridge Drive NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Family and Pallbearers will be attending a private graveside service and invite all other attendees to the Reception at the Church Hall after the Mass.
