Wilma Csokonay

Obituary of Wilma Csokonay

Our family wishes to announce the passing of our mother, Wilma Csokonay (nee Kadar), beloved wife of the Late William Csokonay of Calgary, AB. She passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the age of 92 years. Wilma was born in Kenos, Hungary (now Romania) and came to Canada with her parents in 1929. Wilma and William resided in Calgary all their lives, except for a brief period when they tried the farm life in Brisco BC, returning to Calgary in the later 1960s. They loved travelling in their later years wherever the mood took them, and when this was no longer possible, Dad became her caregiver at home until he passed on in 2005. In her early years, Wilma enjoyed being an amateur singer and dancer through the Calvin Hungarian Presbyterian Church. Wilma also modelled for the Bay in her late teens, and then worked at Northwestern Brass and at Woodward’s Chinook Center. Wilma accomplished much through her life and was proud of being a homemaker and a mom and grandmother. Wilma is survived by her first son, Dr. William Michael Csokonay (Laurie), daughter Catherine Bayliss, granddaughter Amy Naghi (Sabin), and great-grandchildren Sienna and Alex Naghi as well as her brother Joseph Kadar (Betty) and many nieces and nephews in Canada, and cousins in the US and Europe. Wilma was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Regina Kadar, her husband William Nicholas Csokonay, and her second son Richard Joseph Csokonay. At Wilma’s request there will be no funeral service held. A family private burial will occur sometime in the future. In lieu of flowers, wishes of condolence may be expressed through Heritage Funeral Home at www.hffs.com , and/or a donation may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, Administrative Office, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton AB T5H 4K1. Tel: (1-866) 950-5465, www.alzheimer.ab.ca . Our family wishes to thank the staff at the Boyack Centre for attending to her complex needs and care, particularly on Ward 3 East (you are many, and you know who you are). In her way, she was fond of many of you, as is the family. A special thanks to Dr. Annie Yau for her kindness and understanding care.
