Isabel Ferrier

Obituary of Isabel Ferrier

Isabel Annie (MacDonald) Ferrier peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday January 1, 2020. She was born January 18, 1920 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she grew up and was educated. She taught public school in rural Saskatchewan. She married Robert Ferrier on October 19, 1945 in Saskatoon. They moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan that year, where Robert started his medical practice, and then moved to Calgary in 1947. They lived on Richmond Road before moving to their home on Sovereign Crescent, where Isabel lived for the past 62 years, a home she loved dearly. Isabel was a very compassionate and loving person who sacrificed and worked diligently to provide and care for others. She had a penchant for baking and was a marvelous cook. Whether she was cooking for her family, dinner parties or a church function, the food was always delicious and filled with love. Isabel enjoyed socializing and had a great sense of humour. She was strong-willed, and with her unwavering faith, she handled adversity well. Isabel was a caregiver most of her life, and never wanted to impose upon or burden others, so when her health necessitated care from others, it was a difficult transition for her. She did have the blessing of some excellent caregivers, particularly her primary caregiver for almost 20 years, Teri Holdershaw, with whom she had a wonderful relationship. Isabel was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. (Bob) Ferrier in January 2002, one son, Robert J. (Bob) Ferrier in January 2001, and sisters, Dorothy MacDonald and Christine Coventry and brother, Norman MacDonald. Surviving are her daughter Dorothy Harrison (Philip), Vancouver, BC; two sons, Norman (Diane), Rapid City, South Dakota, USA and Donald (Nancy), Vancouver, BC; seven grandchildren, Pamela, Rebecca, Patrick and Matthew Harrison, David, Scott and James Ferrier, one great grandchild, Willa, and two nieces, Bonnie (Ron) Folstad, and Cay (Ig) Baranieski. Funeral Services will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 – 16 Avenue NW (across from North Hill Shopping Centre) on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rod Ferguson (Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church) officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Interment at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
