Obituary of Harold Arthur Stacey

Harold Arthur Stacey, of Calgary, AB, passed away from complications from a stroke, on February 8, 2020 at the age of 95 years. He was preceded by his Loving wife Evelyn, sister Vera and brother Charles. Harold was born November 30, 1924 in Saskatoon, SK, to Charles and Mary Stacey; emigrants from Bray Wick, England. He married his love and lifetime friend, Evelyn Marie Stacey (nee Loeffler), on October 7th 1955. They lived in Saskatoon until 1989, they moved to Calgary, to be nearer to their son and his wife, and the Rocky Mountains. Harold was part of the Great Generation, surviving the Great Depression, Drought and WWII. He grew up in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, the youngest of three, doted upon by his sister Vera and a constant shadow to his brother Charles. On graduating High School, he volunteered in the Royal Canadian Navel Reserve, and after a quick period of training, served on HMCS Calgary (K231) as a Wireless Telegraphist until the end of the war. Upon returning to Saskatoon, Harold enrolled in engineering at the U of S. After taking a Civil Service exam, he joined the Royal Mail Canada, as a railway mail clerk, and then retired from Canada Post as a contract admin. Dad’s major hobbies were fixing old cars, gardening and wood working. No project was ever too difficult to try. The garden was a constant source of food for our family, with Evelyn canning and freezing most of it. His wood working skills meant we tried to build anything. Though our dimensions where often off, it was always fun. Harold’s other hobbies included: bowling, vacationing in the Rocky Mountains, hiking and scenery, numerous bus trips covering most of Canada and North West USA, and an adventure hiking trip to Utah. Harold is survived by his son, Edward and daughter in law Elizabeth. A private family Celebration of Life was held in lieu of a Service. Thank you so much to Harold’s family and friends for your help and support with Harold’s care. A special thank you to: Dr Myles, Dr Lauf, the nurses, and staff of Foothills Hospital Units 32, 71 and 72. They are such wonderful people, who gave so much effort and care to Herald and the family. If friends so desire please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
