Obituary of Joyce Winnifred Kee

Joyce Kee (nee Walter), beloved wife of Murray Kee of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Joyce was born to parents Henry and Julia Walter in October of 1928. She lived on the family farm in Dundurn, SK with her siblings Mary (Emil) Hartz, Ernie (Edna) Walter and Dorothy Walter. She was baptized and confirmed in Haultain, SK. She moved to Saskatoon with her parents and Dorothy in 1946 to attend business college and then worked at the Goodyear Tire Company. She met Murray on New Year's Eve 1954 and they married on May 18, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. After a brief honeymoon in Regina, they moved to Swift Current. Their family began when Barbara was born in June 1957. They returned to Saskatoon in December of that year and bought their first house. Janet was born in May 1960. They then lived in Edmonton for a few months in 1962, completing their family when Warren was born in November. In February of 1963 they moved to and settled in Calgary. Joyce gradually returned to the work force by typing papers, theses and other documents for university students. This led to part-time work at the University of Calgary in the secretarial pool, which subsequently led to full-time employment with the English Department. She enjoyed this position and worked there for nineteen years until her retirement in 1993. Joyce and Murray were very active members of the Banff Trailers Square Dance Club for many years and also danced in the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics. They also enjoyed their time volunteering with the Bethany Care Centre. She loved family, friends, music, laughter, travelling, camping, and being out in nature. She was a warm, friendly person and will be remembered by many for her cheerful smiles and humming. Her faith was very important to her and she was a devoted, charter member of Foothills Lutheran Church. Besides her loving husband, Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Daryl) Refvik and Janet Davis; son, Warren Kee; five grandchildren, Lauren (Matthew Wilson) Refvik, Scott (Samantha) Refvik, Matthew (Tabitha) Kee, Jeremy Kee, and Lindsey Kee; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Zoe and Caleb Refvik and William Kee.
