Obituary of Thomas Roger HENDERSON
June 1, 1931 – Edmonton, Alberta
December 16, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Thomas Roger Henderson on Sunday, December 16, 2018.
Tom leaves to mourn and to celebrate a life well lived, his wife of more than 65 years, Edna (Cinnamon) and three children, Barb Ogle (Kelly), Bob Henderson (Kate), and Sandy Dellenbach (Jim). Tom had eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, Christy Kneiss (Rick), Lydia, Emma, Brooklyn and Victoria; Joey Ogle (Colin Butchart); Jeff Henderson (Melissa), Parker and Aiden; Robyn Dellenbach (Jordan Hunter), and Mike Dellenbach.
Grandpa was predeceased by his grandchildren, Andrew Henderson (1986), Sam Ogle (1988), and Brad Henderson (2013).
Tom was born to Jack and Agnes Henderson on June 1, 1931 on the family farm in the Horse Hills district east of Edmonton. He attended high school in Bon Accord where Edna met ‘my beautiful boy’ in 1946 thus beginning a more than 70-year partnership. In 1950 he went to work for Imperial Pipeline Limited in the rapidly expanding Redwater oilfield. In 1955 Tom left Imperial to join Pembina Pipe Line Ltd., beginning a 38 year mutually beneficial association with what is respectfully referred to as ‘the outfit’, until he retired in 1993.
Tom and Edna enjoyed parts of the winter in Arizona and completing a circum-navigation of North America in his new pickup and fifth-wheel trailer. Tom was an avid gardener, a vociferous reader, and possessed a quick wit. Sadly, in the past several years he suffered from increasingly acute dementia. The family wants to thank the caregivers, staff, medical professionals and The Granddaughter’s Association at Revera Extended Care for their unfailing custody and care of Dad.
According to Tom’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. Although an imposing physical presence, Tom was a very humble man. If folks so desire, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society is appreciated. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
In living memory of Tom Henderson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
