Condolences
Dear Yvonne, Anthony and Jennifer, So sorry to hear of Trevor's passing. We had a long career together and retired on the same day. Trevor arrived earlier than I did at the University so he was able to offer sage advice for a novice botanist. He was on the search committee for my position, and, in fact, offered me the job on our way to the airport after several days of interviews. I accepted right there in his car. Details and formalities for hiring were certainly different then. He was a wonderful warm and gracious man. A loss to us all.
My deepest sympathy in your great loss! Dr. Thorpe was an amazing mentor and even more outstanding human. He was always willing to share what he had discovered generously (including his wife's amazing coconut flan!) and to encourage us in our curiosities! My years with him in his lab allowed me to develop a critical mind while maintaining hopeful solutions and relentless dedication, thanks to his encouragements! He will be dearly missed!
Trevor was a superb friend and colleague. When we carried out collaborative research projects at the U of C, he was a delight to work with. Always generous in his praise and never stinting of his time. Trevor was so easy to work with as without fail he saw the funny side of things. Even when we had the occasional lab bench disaster he was never worried, never critical and would bounce back with some uplifting and cheerful comment. I miss his infectious chuckle.
Jennifer, please accept my condolences on losing your father. He had such a rich and fruitful life. May God watch over you and family during this time and always. Sincerely Kaye

Dear Yvonne, Anthony and Jennifer, Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I have many fond memories of my time in Calgary and in Trevor's laboratory. I especially appreciated the warm welcome I received from Trevor and Yvonne when I arrived from Ontario with my family. Thank you again. I have very fond memories of Trevor as a very fine man, a great researcher and a talented teacher. He will be missed by many of us.
My sincere condolences to Trevor's family. I knew him only casually, but he nevertheless made a a strong, positive impression on me as a colleague at the University of Calgary. A kind and friendly presence on campus, he was someone whose smile always brightened the day. May he rest in peace.
I was your student, then colleague, then friend. We shared many lunches and too many cappuccinos. There was science and laughter and super discussions on the great journey. I will miss your spontaneous laughter, positive attitude, enduring support and always reminding me of the 80/20 rule. Rosita, Anthony, Jennifer, we share your immense grief and mourn with you. Indra and Allan
Yvonne and Family, our thoughts are with you at this time. Trevor was such a positive person -- it was a pleasure to both work and share leisure time with him. Geraldine and I will miss him, but his warmth will remain with us. A few years ago we were fortunate enough to visit Barbados -- that gave us an insight into the source of Trevor's sunny disposition. Our deepest condolences to you all. Tony and Geraldine Russell.
Yvonne and family: Shirley and I offer you our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Trevor. I knew him well ever since he joined the faculty of the University of Calgary, and in particular I enjoyed his company over lunch almost every day when we had a Faculty Club. His original opinions and solid scientific insights were greatly appreciated. Tom Swaddle (Chemistry).
Please accept my sincere condolences. I enjoyed getting to know Trevor and work with him when I was in the Dean of Science office. His positive spirit and humour were infectious. Robert

Words cannot express how saddened we are to hear of loss. We all believe that the sadness of losing a great scholar who made a great academic contribution to the field of plant physiology will be great. Now that you left the real world, but the valuable articles and books you published will still be cited by young scientists and will help them develop academically. It was a turning point of my academic career development and a great honor for me to have the opportunity to study with your research group since I first met you at the International Congress of IAPTC which held in Yokohama, Japan in 1982. I will never forget the beautiful and fond memories shared with you during my stay in Calgary anad when you visited in Korea. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Please remember that you are not alone, we are always here for you
