Obituary of Thomas "Jim" James Cascadden

Thomas James (Jim) Cascadden was born on October 24, 1944 in High River, AB and passed away peacefully on March 29, 2021 in Calgary, AB surrounded by his family. After a short stint at university, Jim worked his entire life in the oil patch in Canada and Iran. He co-founded Tempest Developments in August 1979 with Ken Weller and Frank Ceh. In February 1985, Jim and Ken began Tempco Drilling which is still in business today. He remained involved in Tempco until his passing. Jim was a trusted and savvy businessman and was proud of the company he and Ken built over thirty – five years. Jim was active in the Al Azhar Shrine, most notably the Mounted Patrol. He was President of the Mounted Patrol in both 1995 and 2014. He loved the AMP dearly and made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed the parades and move-outs in all different places both near and far. Some of his best memories were made down at the AMP grounds “messing” around with the horses and enjoying time with his fraternal brothers. Over the years, he was also very active in many different masonic organizations. Jim was generous and intelligent. His sense of humour and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving wife of over fifty-four years, Margaret (nee Cameron), Jim is survived by his children; Will (Joan) Cascadden, Holly (Mark) Lawson and Heather (Mike) Layton; seven beloved grandchildren, Maggie (Grant), Katie and Zoe Cascadden, Connor and Adam Layton and Ashley and Shelby Lawson. He is also survived by several grand dogs, which were very special to him. Jim is survived by two sisters- in-law; Barbara (John) Obst and Elaine Cascadden as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many cousins in Canada and the United States. He was particularly close with Ida Thomson, Barbara Moore, Laura Steadward and John Pollard. Jim had so many wonderful memories of time with the cousins, from childhood until recent days. He was predeceased by his mother, Isabel Grey Cascadden, father, Thomas Cavan Cascadden, brother, Bill Cavan Cascadden and Cousin Harry Pollard. Jim leaves behind many dear friends whom he treasured greatly. Per Jim’s wishes there will be no formal service at this time. We will be holding a celebration of life at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Al Azhar Patient Transportation Fund, 5225 – 101 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T3L 1S4, www.abshriners.com/ways-to-donate/. The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 64 at the Foothills Medical Centre for their wonderful care of Jim and the family during his final days.
