Obituary of Carl Gilbert LANGSTAFF

LANGSTAFF, Carl Gilbert October 28, 1924 - Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan June 24, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta Carl Gilbert (Gil) Langstaff of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Thursday June 24, 2021, at Bow-Crest Care Centre at the age of 96 years. Gil was born in Moose Jaw and raised in both the city and on the family farm near Boharm SK. He married Elizabeth Mary (Betty) Middlemiss of Loreburn, SK on October 28, 1956. Gil started out as a farmer but then switched to a career as a mechanic working for Patterson Motors in Moose Jaw for many years. At the age of 39 he went back to school and received his teaching degree from the University of Alberta. In 1965 he started a twenty-four-year career with the Calgary School Board, teaching automotives at Ernest Manning High School (1965-1979) and autobody at Forest Lawn High School (1979-1989). Gil enjoyed dancing, curling, bowling, square dancing, and travelling across the country to visit family and friends. He loved spending time at the cabin at Manitou Beach, SK and tinkering away at any type of project. Over the years Gil belonged to many clubs and organizations volunteering his time to many causes. He was a member of the UCT, Independent Order of Foresters, Epsilon Pi Tau, Glendale Community Association, as well as Good Companions Senior Center. He also was an active member of St. Matthews United Church, dedicating time to Camp Kasota, and Presbytery. Gil is survived by his son Rob (Delia) of Calgary, AB; daughter Sheila (Ken) Broadfoot of Watrous, SK; grandchildren, Kyle (Elina) Langstaff of Toronto, ON, Jodi (Graham) Schmidt of,Calgary, AB Sarah (Justin) Fehr of Parkside, SK, Graham (Maddi Wagner)Broadfoot of Saskatoon, SK and great-granddaughter Anna Schmidt of Calgary, AB. Gil is also survived by his brother, Albert (Carolann) Langstaff; sisters Margie (Bill) Veale, and Gladys (Grant) Fissum as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gil is predeceased by his wife, Betty, parents, Olive Springer and Fred Langstaff and brother Art Langstaff.
