Obituary of David Claridge Cox

May 30, 1949 – Pasadena, California

February 21, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

“Like ocean waves crashing against the shore, the memories will remain long after this goodbye.”

David Cox, beloved husband of the Late Dawna Cox (nee McFadyen) of Calgary, AB, passed away on February 21, 2023, at the age of 73 years.

David was born in Pasadena, California, USA on May 30, 1949.  He spent some of his younger years in California and Hawaii before moving to Calgary, AB, where he married, and raised two children.  David remarried twice, and after the sudden passing of his late wife Dawna, he returned to the warm sandy beaches of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico where he spent much of his later life.

David was a problem solver.  Working in construction and renovation, David always brought creative solutions to complex building and design challenges.  Not only did he love the tinkering involved with getting things just right, but David also often poured himself into the people that he encountered throughout his career, developing many lifelong friendships along the way.

David was an adventurer.  From fly fishing and game bird hunting to road trips and camper vans, David loved it all, usually with his favourite music playing and a loyal dog by his side.  He will be remembered for his incredible ability to find humour in any situation and the sheer delight that would light up his face when a joke landed just right.  David will be sorely missed.

David is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Saisha, and Jason Boyce; son and daughter-in-law, Devon, and Twyla Cox; and three grandchildren, Blythe, Brielle, and Arwen.

A memorial service was held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 25, 2023
