Obituary of William Thomas Ronneberg

August 21, 1927 - February 14, 2023

William “Bill” Ronneberg of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the age of 95 years.

Bill will be remembered as a storyteller, history keeper, collector of bits and bobs, fixer of all things, and a lover of coffee. Bill was a man of few words who liked to tease, tell a good joke, and gave the best hugs.

Born on August 21, 1927, in Olds, AB, Bill was raised on the family farm at Eagle Hill. He attended Olds School of Agriculture, then held numerous jobs such as driving truck, operating Cat, and working at the sawmill, while continuing to farm. The farm was sold in 1980. Bill moved to Calgary and worked at the Foothills Steel until his retirement.

While living in Ogden, Bill liked to stop at the used car dealer for coffee every morning, this is where he met Nicky McKay. She quickly became the love of his life, and they were married in 1993. When Bill and Nicky were married, he completed his family and took to the role of stepdad and Grandpa Bill naturally. His family meant the world to him. Bill and Nicky made a nice home in NW Calgary and once he retired, they moved to Cluny, AB. After Nicky passed away in 1997, Bill moved to Didsbury, then back to Calgary. Bill spent his retirement years doing what he loved, visiting, sharing a coffee, and lending a hand with all his family and friends.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Catherine Ronneberg, brothers, Keith, and Kenny; sisters, Eleanor, and Olga; and wife Nicky. He will be lovingly remembered by his stepdaughters, Spryng (Ron), and Deanna (Darrel); grandchildren, Kyle Kubicek, Holland Kubicek, Jessalyn Fowler, and Wren (Kenzie) Fowler; and great-grandchildren, Houston, and Olive. Uncle Bill will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews; as well as his large extended family and many friends he touched along the way.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at the Eagle Hill Memorial Community Centre (Box 12 Site 3 RR1 T0M 0W0, Bowden, AB) on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
