Obituary of Gladys Kennedy

September 21, 1928 - Fort Frances, Ontario

February 14, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, Gladys Kennedy passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 94 years.

She was born Gladys Margaret Thomson on September 21, 1928, in Fort Frances, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of Gerry Kennedy, who predeceased her in 1988. Gladys and Gerry met and married in Regina. During their life together, they also enjoyed living outside Toronto and in Calgary. Always devoted to her family, Gladys was a loving mother to Barb, Bob (Joanie) and Cathy, who predeceased her in 2018; she was a beloved grandmother to Scott (Emma), Thomas (Stephanie) and Zoe; and great-grandmother to Lila, Audrey, Isaac, and Adele. She was predeceased by grandson Patrick in 1998.

Throughout her life, Gladys always had a beautiful smile and a positive attitude. She had a love of activities, especially hiking, skating, dancing, and bowling, along with many other interests, such as gardening and bridge. In her later years she enjoyed many happy times with her friend and travelling companion, the late Bob Walkinshaw.

She also had a deep connection to cottage life in Kenora, where she would spend her summers for many years. Gladys also leaves behind many dear friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

In May, Gladys will be laid to rest beside Gerry in Kenora, Ontario. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
