Obituary of Stewart Lawrence Kerby

Stewart Kerby of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the age of 86 years.

 

Stewart was born in Winnipeg, MB, on March 7, 1936. He moved to Edmonton, AB, before going to Toronto, ON, in 1957 after graduating from McGill University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Finally in 1979, Stewart and family came to settle in Calgary, AB, so Stewart could take on the role of General Manager for the western subsidiary of Toronto Iron Works (later purchased by Canadian Erectors Limited and rebranded as TIW Western). Stewart was a registered member of the The Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

 

Stewart accomplished much through his life, performing in radio dramas as a child, as well as playing the clarinet, and saxophone in dance bands during his youth. Stewart loved music and regularly attended performances by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Stewart and Marsha had a special fondness for animals, throughout their time together they had many dogs and a cat. Stewart loved to travel, and he and Marsha visited many different countries across four continents.

 

Stewart is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Stewart John Kerby, Scott Kerby and Sheri Dumais; and his grandchild Sarah Kerby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Stewart was predeceased by his wife Marsha Lynn Kerby in 2019, and parents, Muriel, and John Brant Kerby.

 

A Celebration of Stewart’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
