Obituary of Mary Osiowy
August 26, 1934 - Herbert, Saskatchewan
February 18, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
With the peaceful passing of Mary Osiowy (nee Haughain) on Saturday, February 18, 2023, Anthony and Susan Haughain’s family has at long last been reunited! Along with her parents, Mary will be warmly welcomed by her loving siblings, Frank, Richard, Jerry, Bill, Rita, and Therese, whom all predeceased her, and by her husband James.
Mary was born and raised in Herbert, SK. Following her graduation from Herbert High School in 1952, Mary lived and worked in Swift Current, SK, eventually making her way to Regina, SK. Here she worked for SaskTel as an operator until meeting her beloved husband of 53 years, James Osiowy. At the time, Jim was working for B/A Oil. Mary and Jim were married on July 25, 1959, at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Regina. Jim was then transferred to Calgary in 1960, where they settled and began a family of their own.
Mary leaves behind her three cherished children, Linda (David), Michael (Cindy), and Ron (Teresa); and her beloved grandchildren, Shayla, Carly, Taylor, Erin, Alberto, and Peter.
Mary lived a humble life using her gift of kindness to care for her family and friends. Many hours were spent baking, cooking, sewing, and knitting special treats for as many as possible. She also spent time working at Zellers, Shoppers Drug Mart and Sovereign Insurance, where she cultivated many special friendships. Singing in the choir and volunteering at Corpus Christi Parish were other ways Mary selflessly helped to bring joy into the lives of others.
Mary deeply loved her family and friends and was one of the most kind-hearted, genuine individuals anyone could ever hope to meet. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was where she found her greatest joy. Her sweet nature and gentle spirit will live on in the souls of everyone who had the pleasure to know her.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, (404 Northmount Place NW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall (5931 4 St NW, Calgary, AB). Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The Osiowy family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Leonard and all the staff at Scenic Acres Revera for the unconditional love and support offered to Mary and her family.
