Obituary of Carmen Onespot

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and a family member. 

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Melvin Onespot Sr. (3802 – 146 Avenue, Tsuut’ina Nation, AB) on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. A traditional Funeral Service will be celebrated at Bullhead Hall, Tsuut’ina Nation, AB on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Tsuut’ina Cemetery (Tsuut’ina Nation, AB). Reception will be held Bullhead Hall Traditional Feast (Tsuut’ina Nation, AB) immediately following the graveside. 

Carmen is survived by her husband of 47 years Mel as she affectionally called him and four sons, Kirby, Cody, Craig, Melvin Jr and daughter Carly Onespot. She is survived by her nineteen grandkids and one great-grandson; siblings, Bob Gottfriedson JR (Heather), Billy Dogdinghorse, Val Dodginghorse, Virginia Anne (Justin Cut Knife), Dana Conner-Gottfriedson, Shane W. Gottfriedson, Carol Gottfriedson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends from the BC area along with family members from Tsuut’ina Nation, Andy (Lorraine) Onespot, Rocky Onespot, Ricky (Vanessa) Onespot, Sandy (Todd) Buffalo, Lil (Guy) Gottfriedson, Uncle Reggie and Patsy (Shaun) Onespot. Please accept our apologies if we have missed anyone.

Carmen was predeceased by her mom Anne Gottfriedson, dad Bob Gottfriedson Sr., brothers Elliot, Shawn, Timmy, Barry, and sisters Charlene Onespot-Gottfriedson and Roberta Gottfriedson, her grandparents Gus Sr. and Mildred Gottfriedson, Vivian Dodginghorse, mother and father-in-law Arthur and Lottie Onespot, and brothers-in-law John, Tim and Ronnie Onespot.

Carmen was born in Kamloops, BC. She was raised by her grandparents, Gus and Mildred Gottfriedson. She moved to Calgary at 16 years old and stayed with her dad and stepmom on Tsuut’ina. Carmen met Melvin at the age of 17 years. She looked after numerous children from Tsuut’ina, at the daycare and at Tsuut’ina Elementary.
