Obituary of Robert Wong Howe
December 5, 1924 – Rangoon, Burma
February 24, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Robert Howe of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at the age of 98 years.
Robert was born in Rangoon, Burma on December 5, 1924. He married Betty Chow in 1944, and moved to Elmhurst, NY in 1976, later moving to Calgary, AB.
Robert accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of working at his father’s lumber company who supplied the teak wood that was used on the Royal Yacht Britannia. He enjoyed playing billiard in his younger years and won many trophies in tournaments. His favourite quote was, “One good turn, deserved another.”
Robert is survived by his son Eddie Wong (Eileen) of Pasadena, CA, his daughters, Julia Aye Myint (Kenneth) of Calgary, AB and Bella Leong (Bobby) of Airdrie, AB; his six grandchildren, Wilfred Wong (Elaine) of Pasadena, CA, Angelina Wong, Lawrence Leong (Aileen), Gloria Wong (Richard Fisher), Laurabel Leong (LeVar Braithwaite), and Tiffany Leong (Brad Hearst) of Calgary, AB; his fifteen great-grandchildren, Abigail Wong and Sophia Wong of Pasadena, CA, and Chloe Crocker, Kai Crocker, Annabel Fisher, David Fisher, Ella Fisher, Marcus Leong, Malcolm Leong, Marcelo Leong, Maximilian Leong, Mary Jane Leong, LeVar Braithwaite, Dominic Hearst, and Ari Hearst of Calgary, AB; as well as his daughter-in-law, Than Wong.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty, and his sons, David Wong and Jimmy Wong.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
