Obituary of June Louise Lore

July 14, 1930 - Acme, Alberta

February 24, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

June Lore, beloved wife of the late James Lore, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

June Lore (nee Oel) was born in Acme on July 14, 1930, and resided there until 1946.  When the family moved to Calgary, she attended Crescent Heights High School. Following high school, she enrolled in the University of Alberta’s nursing program, graduating in 1953 with a diploma in Nursing and in 1954 with a BSc in Public Health Nursing.

In October 1953, while still students, June married Jim Lore, a love affair that lasted over 60 years. In 1954 she and Jim moved to a farm east of Carstairs where they resided for 56 years. The couple had five children, Lynn (Lee), Robyn (Joan), Janice (Michael), Stan (Allyson), and John (Dorothy).

June’s generous spirit and care for others, led to a lifetime of community service.  She was a long-time member of the Women’s Institute, and president of both the Alberta Home and School Association and the Canadian Association of Parent Teacher Associations and Home and Schools.  She was a founding member, president, and Chairman of the Board of the Alberta Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation and was active in the formation of the Western Heritage Centre.

Her extensive community work was recognized by many awards. She was named a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA, an Honoree of the Cowgirl Cattle Company, and a Woman of Vision by Global Television. In 1998, she was awarded Alberta’s highest honour, the Alberta Order of Excellence.

June was pre-deceased by the love of her life, her husband Jim, who passed away in 2017. She is survived by her five children, two former daughters-in-law, Angela and Janet; the ten grandchildren she adored, Thayer (Joe), Erin, Colleen, Ashley (Kevin), Grace (Rob), Allyson (Nathan), Katie (Nick), Margo (Chris), Faith (Doug), and Emily; and eleven great-grandchildren, Brienne, Eve, Cason, Asher, Isla, Patrick, Sullivan, Andi, Bexley, Samuel, and Wesley.

June was one of the world’s truly good people. She was kind and generous, with a wonderful sense of humour. She will be missed greatly by her family and all who knew her.
