February 24, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Vivienne “Viv” Le Mesurier on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the age of 89. She passed away peacefully in Calgary with family by her side.

Viv was born in Ottawa, Ontario on September 10, 1933 and was a proud graduate of Queen’s University.

Viv was a medical secretary for most of her career, working in various doctor’s offices as well as the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. She worked both part-time and full-time for 38 years.

Viv was an active member of her community, most recently volunteering in the Canmore Hospital tuck shop and the Banff to Lake Louise Loppett.

Viv was an avid traveler and enjoyed family, friends and travel above anything else. She was always up for an adventure and the cottage on Rowe’s Island at Lac Bernard every summer was her happy place.

Viv enjoyed many hobbies and activities, including tennis, volleyball, skiing (when younger), camping, bowling, quilting, playing bridge, Mexican Train, and cooking in her later years. Viv was a voracious reader and travel was her biggest hobby.

Viv was married to her beloved Kenneth for 64 years and was the proud mother of two sons, Laurence “Larry” Le Mesurier of Fort McMurray, AB and Ross Le Mesurier of Calgary, AB, and one daughter, Leslie Hoeltzenbein (Peter) of Calgary, AB. She also became a doting Grandma (Gma) to Darcie Duczek (Brodie; who she lovingly added to her list of grandchildren) and Mitchell Cooper of Calgary along with Nora Hoeltzenbein (Hoss) of Wokingham, England, and Laura Hoeltzenbein (Alberto) of Toronto, ON who became her beloved bonus granddaughters. She was also honoured to be Ggma to Brooks Dustin Duczek of Calgary, AB, and Joseph Yassin Hoeltzenbein of Wokingham, England. She leaves behind numerous extended family and friends as well.

Viv was predeceased by her mother, Marjorie Sterns, her father, Laurence Sterns, her brother, Dr. Laurence Sterns and her special aunt, Aunt Nona.

Viv will be most remembered for her incredible strength, her sense of adventure, her spontaneity, her quick wit and her passionate love of family. One would often hear her say: “Where should we go on our next trip?”

A private family interment and service will take place in Canmore on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 and a Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
