Obituary of Nancy Marie Watt

June 1, 1925 – Cardiff, South Wales|

February 25, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

“Out of sight but never out of mind”

Nancy Watt (nee Laird) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the age of 97 years.

Nancy is lovingly remembered by her three sons, Duncan, David (Wendy), and Robbie (Tara); her grandchildren, Russ (Tara), James (Nicole), Elizabeth (Jordan), Stacey (Travis), Michael (Kellee), Nicole, and Robin; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband and dear friend Bob, her brother Alex and her parents, Gwendoline and Thomas Laird.

Originally from Cardiff in Wales, Nancy moved to London in her teens with her family where, during the war she volunteered as an air raid warden. Shortly after the war ended, Nancy met her future husband Bob, and they were married in 1947. The family soon grew with the births of Duncan and David, before immigrating in 1957 to Canada, where Robbie was born.

Moving West to Calgary, Nancy was able to continue her passion for the outdoors and the beauty of nature. She was an avid hiker, always enjoying Lake Minnewanka in particular. Weekends were spent exploring garage sales and flea markets with her close friends. For over 35 years, she devoted her working time to help others through organizations such as Bowmont Seniors Assistance Association.

Mom was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, relishing her role as “Nana” and will be sorely missed by those who knew her and loved her.

To respect Nana’s wishes, there will be no formal service. The family will be gathering to Celebrate her Life at a later date.  Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
