Obituary of Serafina Loria
November 5, 1940 - San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy
February 27, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, mama, Serafina Loria passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, at the age of 82 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Saverio Loria, and her children, daughter Connie Loria, son John Loria (daughter-in-law Wendy Loria); and grandchildren, Luca Loria and Shealyn Bullock. She is also survived by her brother, Angelo Straface (sister-in-law Caterina Straface) in Italy, and her sisters, Pasqualina Straface in Italy and Victoria Barberio in Chestermere, AB.
She was predeceased by her first-born son, Giovanni Loria, her brothers Francesco Straface and Natale Straface; and her parents Rosina (Iquinta) Straface and Salvatore Straface.
Born in 1940 in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy, she married her first love in 1964 and moved to Canada in 1966 for a better future. Mama was passionate about her family; she enjoyed the weekend get togethers over dinner. She never let a day go by without thinking of her grandchildren and would shower them with love, hugs, and kisses. Yet, through the joy and through the pain from day to day she gave to see her family happy, always. She loved music, dancing, and long conversations with her closest friends. Mama was known as compassionate, kind, strong willed, but yet a gentle person. God has her in his keeping now, we have her in our hearts, now and forever.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with internment to follow at Queens Park Cemetery – Mausoleum.
