Obituary of Tanis Carolyn Latimer

July 6, 1945 – Red Lake, Ontario

March 5, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Tanis Carolyn Latimer (Wardrop) announces her passing on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the age of 77 years.

Tanis was born in Red Lake, Ontario on July 6, 1945, where the family resided for a few years before returning to their hometown of Swan River, Manitoba. Once there, Tanis lived with her aunt and uncle, Alice and Frank Thomas, while attending school and working at the local Bank of Montreal (BMO) branch as a teller. It was during this time that she met the man who would become her husband, Bill Latimer.

Tanis and Bill wed in 1976, and then relocated from Swan River to Calgary where they had their daughter a few years later. Tanis was a loving and devoted mother, able to balance life and work with grace and determination. She continued to work with BMO once in Calgary, advancing in both experience and management to culminate in a career spanning over forty years before her retirement in the early 2000s.

Tanis had a true enjoyment for nature, music, performing arts, and most especially travel. Whether in another country or close to home, she loved to travel with family and experience new and wonderful things. One of her favourite memories reflected this passion as she celebrated her 60th birthday with a champagne flight in a hot air balloon over Calgary and enjoyed prime seats to a much-anticipated concert.

Left to mourn this loss and survive Tanis’ passing are her daughter Nicole Latimer (David), sisters Penny Joudrey (Stephen) and Gladys Dunne; nieces Robin (Steve), Tracy, Amber, Sara, and Julia; and nephews, Evan and Nathan. Tanis was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Latimer (2015), mother Florence Best (2006), sister Sandra Read (1993), brother-in-law Harvey Read (2011), nephew Lindsay Read (2012), mother-in-law Bertha Latimer (2015), and numerous extended family members.

Although her passing is a great loss to all who knew her, we take comfort in the cherished memories Tanis leaves with us and her family invites attendees to share their memories at her Celebration of Life.
