Obituary of Lois Jack

JACK, Evelyn “Lois”

October 21, 1938 – Bowsman, Manitoba

March 7, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Lois Jack (nee Baker) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, March 07, 2023, at the age of 84 years.

Lois was born in Bowsman, MB on October 21, 1938, where she lived on a farm with her family. She learned to play guitar at a young age that led her to playing guitar and singing with family at country dances and social gatherings.

Her family moved to BC where she took her love of guitar to play in local bars and pubs in her late teens and twenties. She joined the Air Force through which she met her future husband, Bruce Jack. Together they enjoyed attending many live sporting events. They were married in Vancouver, BC September 2, 1961. They later moved to Calgary where their daughter Beverly was born in 1965.

After her daughter was born, a significant portion of her life was committed to being a loving and supportive mother. Beverly has often said how much having her mothers unending support got her through nursing school. In 1970/71 they designed and built their house in Oakridge, where she spent the next 50 years of her life.

In the 80s and 90s Lois was manager of Barbeques Galore in Calgary where she was an admired team leader. She is still spoken of fondly today by fellow employees. She then retired and spent her later life enjoying her beloved granddaughter Nicole (Nicki), whom she doted on completely and was never happier than when she was spending time with her.

Lois was very athletic throughout her life. In the 70s she spent many hours playing on a woman’s softball league, which she excelled at. Later in life she also enjoyed golf and racquet ball.

Lois was best known to all for her love of gardening, both flowers, and her GIGANTIC vegetable garden. Her yard was always immaculate and people walking by would stop to admire her hard work and have a chat.

Lois was kind-hearted and friendly with a great sense of humor. She was always willing to help those around her. She spent many happy hours helping to prepare the meals for the monthly seniors’ lunches at South Calgary Community Church. Because she was a senior, she also got to enjoy the lunches that she and her friends had prepared.

Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Kenneth Joseph Linnington, granddaughter Nicole Linnington, sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Jack Cinnamon, brother and sister-in-law Keith and Carol Baker, as well as her nieces and nephews.

Lois was predeceased by her husband Bruce, her parents Rhea and Lyle Baker, her loving sister Lyla Reding, and her nephew Murray Reding.

Lois will be dearly missed by all. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Lois Jack, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
