Kenneth Port

Obituary of Kenneth Sydney Port

1933 - 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ken Port on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the age of 89 years, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Ken was born in 1933, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and immigrated to Canada in 1953. Before too long, he had a position with Alberta Government Telephones (AGT). Ken spent a fulfilling thirty-three years with AGT, and during that time, met the love of his life Mary Margaret Pelletier. Common interests of hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and traveling solidified their special relationship and they were married in 1975. They traveled the world together and many stories were recorded with photographs, as Ken had a gift when it came to photography. Retirement offered time for volunteering together and helping friends and family. They sold their house in 1989, bought an RV, and traveled until April of 2000, which presented many adventures and more memories captured. Ken was also an accomplished writer and wrote his memoir. His life was full.

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Robert Percival Port and Mary Colquehoun Port (nee Christie); and brothers, Leonard Port, Raymond Port, and Stanley Port. Ken is survived by his wife of 48 years Mary Port (nee Pelletier), stepdaughter Veronica Port, sons, Michael, Keith, and Blaine; grandchildren, Dustin, and Paige; and many nieces, and nephews.
