Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Pardon

August 31, 1961 - Oshawa, Ontario
March 11, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Ann Pardon passed away in Calgary, AB, on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the age of 61. She was a devoted mother to Hannah Kate Lomas and Caroline Elizabeth Lomas, and beloved middle sister of Raymond and Heather. Her aunts, uncles, and cousins will remember her fondly for her warm personality, fun-loving spirit and trademark smile.

Ann was born on August 31, 1961, in Oshawa, ON, to Robert Charles Pardon and Jean Marilyn Robb, and grew up in Whitby, ON. An active child, Ann excelled in the arena as a figure skater and later a ringette player. She spent many summers in the Whitby Town Pool, often spending the entire day in lessons, at the public swims or in training with the swim team. In her early teens, she took up downhill skiing, a sport she later enjoyed with her two daughters for many years on the slopes of Panorama, BC.

Ann picked up a strong work ethic at a young age, helping her mom tend to the vast vegetable garden on the family property. At age 10, she took her first job as a cashier at the local strawberry patch, across the road from her home. A highly responsible and industrious youngster, Ann later became a lifeguard, water safety instructor and nurse's aide in a local nursing home before landing a summer job at a local accounting firm.

An incredibly bright and hard-working student, Ann excelled in school. She graduated from high school with honours at the top of her class, having won several prestigious awards and scholarships. Upon graduation from Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute in Whitby, ON, Ann then attended the University of Toronto, obtaining her Bachelor of Commerce in 1983. Shortly thereafter, on her first attempt, she passed the chartered accountant exam and began her career in accounting and finance working for Southam Newspapers and Coopers and Lybrand. Ann later joined Suncor, marking the start of a thirty-year career in the energy industry. She also worked at Cenovus, MEG Energy, and most recently Enerflex, in lead financial roles.

Ann loved working with her colleagues and eagerly returned to the office after the recent pandemic. In her spare time, she enjoyed vacationing with family and friends, spending time outdoors and being creative in the kitchen. Ann had a kind and generous heart and often liked to surprise her family or friends with thoughtful and loving gifts.

A highly devoted mother, she spared no effort to advance the interests of her two daughters. Both Hannah and Caroline became skilled downhill skiers, competing for Team Panorama for many years. Like their mom, both are also highly accomplished and hard-working women, pursuing careers in business and finance. Her pride and joy, Ann travelled without hesitation to visit and support her daughters, enjoying many trips to Toronto and Halifax where they currently reside.

Ann led a full, adventurous, and well-lived life; she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
