Randy Thomas Fisher

Obituary of Randy Thomas Fisher

May 10, 1950 – Chatham, Ontario

March 10, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Randy passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the age of 72 years.

Randy is survived by sons Chad and Chris (Theresa); daughter Terra; sister Gaylene (Michael Playfair); grandchildren Lacey, Shealyn, Owen, Biancha, Makayla, Dakota, Cooper; great-grandchildren Austin, Zoey, Owen; nephew Joshua and niece Amanda; brother-in-law Rocky Methot; former wives Janet, Mary; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by parents Raymond (Bud) and Arbutus (Arbie) Fisher, and sister Jaylene.

Randy became a brother to twin sisters at age 12. He was a big help with the babies. The twins loved him and called him “Ra-Ra” until they got older.

Randy grew up in Calgary and developed ‘street smarts’ at a young age. At age 17, he and Janet married and started a family; a relationship that remained for 23 years. He worked as a welder and achieved Journeyman status. He was skilled at troubleshooting and doing automotive repairs. He often lent a hand to family or friends. It was amazing what he could do at the side of the road or in someone’s driveway.

Good-natured, sincere, and with a firm handshake, he would look you in the eye and start a genuine conversation that would put you at ease. He was a charismatic storyteller and a purveyor of jokes, probably picked up at lunchtime on job sites or at the local pub. He had the ability to remember long-winded jokes and stories. You were captivated by his storytelling style with lively gestures and sound effects too. He also enjoyed the great outdoors; fishing, hunting, and spending time at the river in Bowness on summer evenings.

He was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 725 for 28 years and enjoyed his welding career until his health began to decline due to lung issues. His focus had to change to treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Randy retired in 2010, was fiercely independent and lived life the way he wanted despite his health problems.

We wish to thank Dr. Dina Fisher and her team at the NTM Clinic, Dr. Cathlin Mutch, and the staff on Unit 32 Foothills Hospital for their diligence in helping Randy get better during the summer of 2022, as well as the caring staff at Carewest Sarcee and AgeCare Bowcrest.
