December 8, 1934 - Winnipeg, Manitoba
March 12, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
The family of Robert “Bob” Hansell are sad to announce his peaceful passing at the age of 88.
The second son born in Winnipeg on December 8, 1934, to Leslie and Emily Hansell (nee France), Bob graduated from East Kildonan Collegiate and received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Manitoba on May 22, 1957. He found his life companion in Gloria (nee Braybrook), whom he married on May 27, 1957. Bob and Gloria moved around until falling finally for Calgary’s charm in 1962. His first job as an engineer was for Canadian Industries Limited. He then worked for Canadian Ice Machine Limited until he formed his own company, Airtherm Engineering Sales.
Bob had been an active member and former president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers; Rotary Club of Calgary North; and Alberta Volleyball. He was a member and associate of the YMCA for 42 years, assisting and supplying many camperships. He was a volunteer for the Stampede Exhibition for 25 years, plus alumni for 5 years. Bob was very fond of supporting charities, especially young people in the Philippines and Operation Smile, which would always bring a tear to his eyes when he talked about the children.
Bob’s interests were hiking, cross country skiing, travel, and the arts. Gloria and Bob were able to take several trips to England.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Gloria in 2010, his parents, and his older brother Ken. He will be missed by his two sisters, Barbara and Sandra, his brother Ted and his wife Aaltje; as well as many adoring family members, friends, and neighbours.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at the Danish Canadian Club (727 – 11 Ave SW) on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
