Obituary of Carmel Patricia Bernadette Campbell

March 17, 1942 – Sydney, Nova Scotia

March 13, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Carmel Campbell, beloved wife of Tom Campbell, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at the age of 80 years.

 

Carmel was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on March 17, 1942. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier with a degree in Education and then moved to Wetaskiwin, where she taught for a year before relocating to Calgary. In Calgary, Carmel met Tom and they were married on August 8, 1967.

 

She was a member of the CWL and parish council for a number of years, teaching new parishioners’ catechism. Carmel became the first female Eucharistic Minister.

 

Carmel accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of singing at the 1988 Olympics. Carmel enjoyed both downhill and cross-country skiing, golfing, hiking, and most of all, spending time with her family. He most memorable vacation was when she went to the Bahamas to visit her Uncle Father Bob.

 

Carmel could often be heard asking, “Do you want to play Scrabble?”. She will be most remembered for her kindness and love of her family.

 

Besides her loving husband Tom of 55 years, Carmel is survived by her daughter Bonni; son Scott (Christy); and granddaughters, Alexandria, Daniella, and Sydney. She is also survived by sisters Emily (Alex) Wall, Theresa (DA) MacKenzie, Paula (Ron) Jacobson, Kathy Penny, and brothers Allie (Sissy) MacPherson, Mike (Colleen) MacPherson, Robert (Debra) MacPherson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Carmel was predeceased by her parents, her brother-in-law Greg Penny, and sister-in-law Shirley Bevilauqua.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the Church. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Campbell’s service streamed live on the day of the service (see below). For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed there.
