Obituary of John Edward Clayton Turner

September 29, 1950 - Ottawa, Ontario

March 13, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the Turner and Fraser family announce the loss of John Turner who passed away the evening of Monday, March 13, 2023, after a short but aggressive battle with cancer.

Raised in Ottawa, Ontario, John was a good student and talented athlete. He attended Merivale High School and was an all-star athlete in both basketball and volleyball. He went on to graduate from Algonquin College in the early '70s with a certificate in hospitality management. He eventually moved out Calgary, Alberta where he built a career in seismic.

JT, as his work family knew him, had a long and successful career in the geophysical industry. His expertise was in Advance Line Construction and Supervision working for companies such as Canjay, Bighorn, and Arcis. He later started his own company, Claymar, the name of which is derived for the first syllables of his parent’s first names.

JT was well known for his calm and friendly manner on projects. He never seemed to get stressed and was always up for a laugh and a stiff drink. He had a great sense of humour and always approachable. JT mentored many people for the years and was admired by everyone he met. He will truly be missed by his seismic family. Unwilling to completely retire JT went to work as the green’s keeper at River Spirit Golf Course where it is said the lines on the greens were never straighter.

JT was predeceased by his beloved parents, Clayton and Margaret Turner (nee Gamble), he will be greatly missed by his devoted wife Sharon Fraser, stepdaughter Lacey Fraser and granddaughter Lyric age 6. He also is survived by his younger brother Terry Turner, niece Kaitlin Turner, great-niece Lillah age 10, and his nephew David Newell-Turner and great-nephew Logan age 12. He will also be missed by his former stepsons Wade, Carl, Brent (deceased) and Warren. John was a loyal and loving husband, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend and will be missed by many!
