A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER....
Jean Pawson was my aunt and cherished godmother. She, along with her husband Ken, visited Australia many times. In fact, she took up residence with her parents (my grandparents) in Launceston, Tasmania during the 1950s whilst Ken was waiting for employment in the surveying field. Canada then came beckoning, and they forged a wonderful life in Calgary.
In later life their visits to Tasmania were frequent. They always called it "The Land that we love". In particular they loved the challenging environment and were keen to explore the wild mountainous areas. I was often their transport to many places, and it enabled me to form a bond with Jean that wasn't possible in earlier life. In fact I think it was her working time as a nurse and carer which inspired me to forge a career in Community Aged Care at the age of 60!
Australia (and Tasmania) always held a special place in their hearts. Jean and Ken made many friends here and they both will be sorely missed.
Above all I admired Jean's (and Ken's) adventurous spirit which saw them explore many countries in the world and enjoy wonderful experiences in all of them.

Dear Brett, Mark and Family,
We were so saddened to hear about Jean's passing. What an incredible woman she was and we know how deeply you all will miss her. How fortunate our family was to have the Pawson family as neighbours and have the inspiration of Ken and Jean for 60+ years next door. Your mom's passion for the outdoors, her beautiful garden and staying active are some of the outstanding memories we will have of her forever. Sending our deepest condolences.
Fondly, Terri, Alan and Brian Franks

Beautifully written obituary. I don’t think she had many wasted moments in her life! We knew Ken and Jean through the Alberta Land Surveyor’s Association. A visit with her, or a memory of her will always bring a smile.
I remember Jean well from Foothills paediatrics. She was a wealth of knowledge to all of her colleagues, especially the Newbies.
