Obituary of James Charles Gauld
April 28, 1946 - Guelph, Ontario
March 15, 2023 - Cochrane, Alberta
Jim Gauld was a Father, Grandfather and a friend, he passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at the age of 76 years. Jim was born in Guelph Ontario on April 28, 1946, to his mother Lois, and his father Roger. His father passed away early in his life, so Jim was raised by his mother along with his brother Bobby and his sister Catherine.
Jim got married in 1968 and moved to Kelowna BC, where he had his daughter Misha, then in 1974 moved to Calgary AB where he had his son Jude.
Jim excelled in everything he did, and he was a true entrepreneur. He started his first small business venture in the 1970’s when he opened a hair salon and became a master stylist. After his passion for fishing encouraged him to open a fishing sports store where he would spend all day perfecting his fishing stories. Here is where Jim found a new passion for storytelling, which helped greatly when he had the privilege of writing the outdoor column for the Calgary Sun for many years. He loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with his readers, especially everything fishing related. However, his last company was his favorite because he owned it with his son, they worked side by side and together built a wonderful landscaping company. With his love of the outdoors and his ability to see the beauty in everything, he had truly found his place.
In his spare time Jim loved to go fishing and look for treasures in thrift stores with his partner Jeanne (Thanks for the love of shopping Dad). He also enjoyed reading, wildlife photography and spending time with his dog Woddy.
One of Jim’s favorite quotes was: We can complain rose bushes have thorns or we can rejoice because thorn bushes have roses. Which was very much our Dad’s way of looking at life.
Jim is survived by his daughter Misha (Jason) and his son Jude (Jacqueline); his 6 grandchildren (whom he adored), the mother of his children Suzie, his nephew Douglas, and his partner of many years Jeanne.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Lois, his father Roger, his brother Bobby, his sister Catherine, and his nephew Michael.
Our paths diverged to soon, Dad. We wish we had more time, more moments. We wish you could stay forever but we know you are resting in peace. We miss you and love you so much more than you even knew.
As per our Dad’s wishes a private family service will be held. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
In living memory of James Gauld, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB T4C 2E2, Telephone: 403-932-4740.
