Obituary of Donald Murray Whittaker

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Murray Whittaker, beloved husband of Lorraine Whittaker. Donald passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary on Friday March 17, 2023 at the age of 94.

Donald was born August 26, 1928 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Beatrice and Francis Whittaker, came to Calgary as a young child, returning to MLA camp at the nearby Lake of the Woods regularly throughout his childhood building a storehouse of memories and a love of the outdoors.

Working for many years in the oil sector as an accountant, Donald stayed with the same company as it changed around him. He loved camping and sailing, taking his children on many trips during summer holidays. An avid gardener, and reader he passed these interests onto his children.

Donald will be missed by his wife of sixty-five years Lorraine; his four children Brian, John, Diane, and Mark; his sister Beth; grandchildren Christian, Elyse, Kevin, Ryan, Nolan, Rebecca, Aaron; his great-grandchild Cyrus; niece Elizabeth; nephews David and Murray; and numerous in-laws.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
