Obituary of Dr. Andrew Richard Strilchuk

November 27, 1941 – Kamsack, Saskatchewan

We are sad to announce that Dr. Andrew Strilchuk of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 81 years.

Andy was born in Kamsack, SK, on November 27, 1941. It is here that he spent his early school years being taught by his father in a one-room schoolhouse. Andy graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1962 with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics (with Great Distinction) and then went on to complete Master’s and Doctoral degrees by 1972. While at university, he met his wife, Anita Pearson. They married, settled in Saskatoon, and started a family. In 1971, they moved to Alberta and have been married for 57 years.

Andy had a 21-year career with Imperial Oil Research in Calgary. He was particularly proud of his achievements during this time with numerous inventions pertaining to his research in the oil and gas field. He then went on to establish his own consulting business until he retired. Andy was a member of the APEGA and volunteered with Esso Annuitants Club, as well as coaching Little League Baseball for his son Michael. Andy enjoyed curling, golfing, skiing, camping, the Wine Club, and spent countless hours in the yard and garden. He had a brilliant mind, a passion for research and analyzing before committing. He was known for building mockups, measuring twice, and cutting once.

Besides his loving wife Anita, Andy is survived by his three sons, Daryl (Tracy), Kevin, and Michael (Jacqueline); and two grandchildren, Evelyn, and Julian. Andy is also survived by his three brothers, Stanley (Alice), Thomas (Gloria), and Lawrence (Marlene); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Andy will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend, who shared many laughs and memorable vacations, camping at Sask Landing and cruising the Mediterranean with his brothers and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.
