Obituary of Billy Spring Chief

April 16, 1993 – Calgary, Alberta

March 20, 2023 - Siksika Nation, Alberta

William “Billy” Spring Chief of Siksika Nation, AB, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 29 years.

Billy was born to parents, Brent Spring Chief and Francine Big Tobacco, on April 16, 1993. Billy always spoke fondly of his family; he loved spending time with his siblings growing up. He had a big heart, always being there for his friends and family and they were always on his mind. Billy loved his animals too, but was also an avid gamer, always up for some good competition.

He loved giving back to the community, passing his games along once he was finished enjoying them, and would go so far as to purchase games to make sure others could enjoy them when he couldn’t give his favourites up. His awesome sense of humor is something that will be missed and remembered.

He graduated in 2010, having the honour of being one of the first graduates of Siksika Nation Outreach School, where he won the Governor Generals award.

Billy enjoyed working at the Trail Market, being one of their first employees in 2017, and the Petro-Canada Gas Station. Everybody appreciated his work ethic and friendly nature; anybody could approach him. We would like to thank Trail Market for their generous donation, and Chantell Wright and her siblings for the ribbons.

He loved his son Dante with all his heart. He would drop anything for him, going above and beyond what folks would consider the “norm”, often calling him father of the year.

Billy is survived by his son, Dante Spring Chief and his mother Kristen Daniels; his dad, Brent (Tara) Spring Chief; brothers, Joey (Brandi) Big Tobacco, Mark (Tanisha) Fox, Dallas (Ariel) Many Heads, Waylon (Linda) Many Heads, Alden (Nicki) Big Old Man, and Dillon Smith; his sisters, Allison Duck Chief, Sikapinakii Low Horn, Julian Eagle Speaker, Edna Many Heads, Natasha Many Heads, Tabitha Spring Chief, and Ainsley Many Heads; his aunts and uncles, Claudia (Joe) Patrick, Melvina (Clifford) Healy, Valerie McMaster, Anthony (Harriet) Red Gun, and Jocelyn (Troy) Big Tobacco, Mary Anne Spring Chief, Randy (Caroline) Spring Chief, Colin Spring Chief, Elaine Spring Chief, Rose (Robert) Bull Bear, Bret Wright, Shayna Wright, Katarina Wright, Rochelle Wright, Chantelle Wright, Ashley Wright, Leslie Water Chief, and Stanley Water Chief; as well as his grandparents, Mario and Karen Water Chief; Spotted Eagle aunts and uncles, Jason, Adam, Darcy, Shirley, Rita, Rosie.  His godsons, Marcus Calf Child and Damien Calf Child; the family would like to apologize if they have missed any other family that are left to mourn Billy.
