Obituary of Elide Maria Marchesan
July 3, 1940 - Castello di Godego, Treviso, Italy
March 20, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved mother and nonna, Elide Marchesan, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the age of 82 years with her family by her side.
As a young woman, Elide was a seamstress who resided in a beautiful, quaint town in northern Italy. At that time her future husband Egidio was working in Calgary and while on a trip back to visit family in Italy, he was fortunate to meet Elide. Their courtship continued long distance often in the form of letters until Elide immigrated to Calgary in 1963 and then they were wed.
Elide was an incredible cook and baker of all things Italian. Her greatest joy was having her family close, sharing meals, and especially having grandchildren by her side. She had a special way of uniting her family for all life’s moments, big and small and Elide was always available and ready to help her family and friends.
She meticulously cared for her garden, enjoyed campsite breakfasts in the mountains with her family and sung in the church choir. Elide was a member of the Italian Church community in Calgary where she cherished the many friendships she made over the years. She travelled abroad to many destinations but in particular, had a passion for returning to Italy to visit extended family. Elide was proud of her family, she was kind, had a loving smile, funny stories to tell, and had a great sense of unreserved humor. She will be most remembered for her enduring love and dedication to her family.
Elide was predeceased by her loving husband Egidio Marchesan in 2006. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Giovanni, Angelo, Eugenio, Vicenzo; and her sister Serafina.
Elide is survived by her daughter Adriana (Gerrit Spronken) and their children, Nicole, and Michael; her son Renato (Mara) and their children, Alessia, and Mirella; her son Frank (Stacey) and their children, Dante, and Everett. She also leaves to mourn her sisters, Udilia, Angela, and Silvana, and her brother Silvano; along with her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Mausoleum. Reception will follow at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
