Obituary of Margaret Wenona Shade

March 5, 1935 – Bradwell, Saskatchewan

March 22, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Margaret Shade (nee Dubois) of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the age of 88 years. She was surrounded by her family.

Margaret was born in Bradwell, SK, the youngest of five children and only daughter. She married Raymond in 1958 and raised three children.

Margaret loved to bake and will be remembered for her fabulous cookies and pies. She would make multiple pies at one time, which she would send home with her adult children. There are still few remaining today which will be savoured. At Halloween she would make more than 300 popcorn balls, which children in the neighbourhood greatly enjoyed.

Margaret deeply loved her four grandsons, and enjoyed doing crafts with them when they were young. Even though they are now adults, she always had a chocolate treat for them during holidays, which usually included the building of a small toy.

Margaret enjoyed camping and gardening. She liked to play the “nickel card game” with family, which usually included a lot of laughter. Margaret loved to laugh and had a soft heart. Movies and books often made her cry. She loved to read, especially stories about animals. She enjoyed watching westerns on TV and listening to old-time country music.

Margaret spent her last years at Chartwell Colonel Belcher, where she found great enjoyment playing bingo and going to the horse races, where she was very lucky. She would often share her chocolate bar winnings with her friends and family. She truly enjoyed the musical entertainment and the documentary movies about animals. She participated in many activities and enjoyed her friendships. Thanks to the staff of the Colonel Belcher and AHS Home Care for their compassionate care of our mother. She greatly appreciated everything you did for her as did we.

Margaret is survived by her three children Brenda (Greg) Schultz, Sandra, and Ronald; and four grandsons Eric, Kevin, Graham, and Cameron, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Glenna Dubois, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond and her four brothers.

As per Margaret’s wishes, there will be no funeral. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, www.ab.lung.ca or to Veterans Association Food Bank of Calgary, www.veteransassociationfoodbank.ca/calgary-location.
