Obituary of Sam Che Voong

Sam Che Voong of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the age of 105 years.

Sam Che was born in Vietnam on August 25, 1917. She immigrated to China in 1978 after surviving the War and fleeing as refugees. She moved to Winnipeg, Canada in 1983 to help her youngest son raise his family.

Sam Che was a strong, resilient, and independent woman. She became widowed at the age 45 in 1962 in the midst of the Vietnam War and had to raise her three children by herself. She then lost her sister and brother-in-law as a result of the War in 1968. Sam Che took in her orphaned two nephews and one niece and raised them as her own. She is a role model that has always put her family first.

Sam Che is survived by her two sons, Nhan Quoc Bang and Nhan Chi Bang; her sixteen grandchildren, Thien Duc Bang, Lien Ngoc Bang, Thanh Ngoc Bang, Phan Ngoc Bang, Phuong Ngoc Bang, Quyen Ngoc Bang, Dang Dan, Sam Dan, Cuong Dan, Thinh Dan, Ha Dan, Ngoc Dan, Ray Thien Bang, Kenny Thien Bang, David Thien Bang, and Ryan Thien Bang.

Sam Che is also survived by her thirty-two great-grandchildren and her five great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sam Che was predeceased by her husband Dong Phuong Bang, her daughter Kim Anh Bang, and her grandson Chi Dan.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
