Obituary of Margaret Marie Anderson

June 26, 1933 – Markerville, Alberta

March 23, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Anderson, on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the age of 89 years. She passed away peacefully and is now back with the love of her life, her husband Cyril.

Marg was born in Markerville to William and Hanna Fountain on June 26, 1933. While growing up on the farm in Innisfail, she helped out doing chores and during summer making meals when it was thrashing time.  She attended high school in Red Deer and after graduating, started her work career at the Bank in Innisfail. It was there that she met Cyril, while he was visiting the town to pay a speeding fine. They married in 1956, settled in Calgary and spent 64 years together.

Marg is survived by her two children, Curtis (Brenda) and Shelly (Jeff); three grandchildren, Cory (Jackie), Kyle, and Jaret (Stephanie); and four great-grandchildren, Cade, Conor, Grayson, and Finley.

Marg provided a warm and nurturing home for her family and friends. She loved spending time together, cooking wonderful meals, and if you were lucky enough to stop by on a Monday, the home would be filled with the smell of freshly baked bread.  Or any other day, she always had an assortment of baking on hand, fudge squares, poppy seed cake and a variety of muffins.  A family favorite at Christmas were her melting moments; they were stored at the bottom of the freezer, to ensure there were some left for Christmas Day.

Marg enjoyed keeping busy and was involved in the Girl Guides and working the Provincial Elections. She had a green thumb and loved tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, she spent many hours creating long time friendships curling and playing bridge.

During her and Cyril’s retirement years, when in Calgary, an Iced Capp from Tim Hortons a day was required to cure any ailments. They enjoyed many trips travelling abroad and driving their Motorhome to Arizona to spend the winters, while visiting friends near and far.

Marg was predeceased by her husband Cyril, her parents William and Hanna Fountain; her three brothers, mother and father-in-law, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
