Jack Weile

Obituary of Jack Roland Weile

June 30, 1931 - Calgary, Alberta

March 27, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Jack Weile of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at the age of 91 years.

Jack was born in Calgary, AB, on June 30, 1931. His family, whose surname is Vejle, then moved to Denmark in 1937. When Jack decided to move back to Calgary in 1951, his father suggested changing his surname back to his grandfather’s name, Weile, which he did in 1959. Jack mostly worked as a mechanic, and later the shop Foreman, before retiring in 1991.

Jack married Margaret, the love of his life, in 1958. He has been a cherished member of the Danish Canadian Club since 1958. Through his generosity, he donated many items to the Club, including a Carlsberg poster and Tuborg sign. Jack accomplished much through his life, and was particularly proud of his two granddaughters, his beautiful marriage of almost 50 years, with Margaret, his sons and daughter-in-law, his Pacific 66 Gas Station in the Southwood neighborhood of Calgary from 1970-1978, and his many travels in his trailer.

Jack enjoyed golfing, camping, gardening, playing the Mandolin, making stained glass projects, going to rodeos and music festivals, especially the Norsk Hostfest in Minot, ND.

Jack had many memorable vacations and was always able to remember the dates and exact places he visited and what he saw there. He loved to talk about his trip to Alaska and his final trip back to Denmark the most.

Jack’s favorite tongue twister to say was, “All I want is a proper cup of coffee, made in a proper copper coffee pot. If I can’t get a proper cup of coffee, made in a proper copper coffee pot, then I’ll have a cup of tea”.

He is most remembered for his great memory, humour, his smiling eyes, his kindness, his independence, and being an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend.

Jack is survived by his two sons, Glenn and Bruce Weile, and daughter-in-law, Carol Weile, all of Calgary, AB; and two granddaughters, Leah Weile (Carlos Estrada), of San Francisco, CA, and Shauna Weile (Justin Crate) of Calgary, AB. Jack is also survived by his sister, Irene Lemmer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, including his great-nephew Jeff (Jessica Berridge) and their two sons, Duke and Jack; and cousins and friends.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Lambe), father and mother, Carl and Anna Vejle of Copenhagen, Denmark; and sister Ruth Offersen of Denmark.

There will be no funeral service, as requested by Jack. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Jack Weile, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
