Obituary of Ethel Bernice Kobluk

November 7, 1930 - Edwell, Alberta

March 26, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

The family of Ethel Bernice Kobluk (nee Healy) is saddened to announce the news of her passing on Sunday March 26, 2023, at 92 years of age.

Ethel was born in Edwell, Alberta on November 7, 1930, on the farm where she grew up with her mother and three sisters. Life on the farm wasn’t easy but she shared many fond memories of the community ice rink at their house, teachers staying there, and all four sisters riding a horse to school together. She moved to Red Deer at a young age where she worked at Eaton’s.

She met her husband of 56 years, Stanley Kobluk, at a dance at Pine Lake and they were married in 1950. After they were married, they moved around Alberta and lived in Delburne, Red Deer, Donalda, Rocky Mountain House, Pincher Creek and eventually settled in Calgary in 1956. They welcomed their two kids Calvin and Michael during these years. Ethel was a caring and patient stay at home mom until 1967 when she re-entered the work force.  She worked as an office administrator (for a group of medical laboratories and a property management company).

Ethel loved to cook for her family and always hosted dinners at their home. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, and reading.   She and Stan loved to travel and enjoyed many trips together and with friends.  She suffered from dementia in her later years but never lost her sense of humor or pleasant disposition.

For the past fifteen years, Ethel lived at the Manor Village at Garrison Woods. Her family extends special thanks to the caregivers there for their compassionate care, especially in her later years.

Ethel is pre-deceased by her husband Stanley in 2006, and two of her sisters (Agnes and Alice). She is survived by her two sons Calvin (Gina) of Minnesota and Michael (Diane Altwasser) of Calgary.  In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren, Kristi (Paul Kim) of New Jersey, Hannah of Squamish, Trevor of Calgary, and Landon, Grayson and MacCayle all of Minnesota. She is also survived by her sister Helen of Edmonton.
