Obituary of Helene Dueck

February 26, 1937 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

March 31, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Helene “Helen” Dueck (nee Dyck) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 in Calgary Alberta, on the morning of Friday March 31, 2023, to go home to her Lord and Savior.

Helen was born to Susanna and Cornelius Dyck in Winnipeg Manitoba, on February 26, 1937. She was the eighth of thirteen children.  In 1945, at the age of eight years old, the family moved to Yarrow B.C. where they had a small farm.  During her childhood and teenage years, she helped her parents make extra money by picking raspberries and hops during the summers.

After high school, Helen moved away from home to the big city of Vancouver with her sister where she started her bookkeeping career at a car dealership.  She met a young man named Peter Dueck in the church choir who became the love of her life and Helen and Peter were married on November 9, 1957.  In 1960 they moved to Calgary where they were blessed with two sons, Darrell, and Jeffrey.

Helen and Peter enjoyed traveling around the world, and Helen volunteered for years in the MCC thrift store. She was a caring person and left a lasting and loving impression on everyone she met, friends and strangers.

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 65 years, Peter;  her children Darrell (Brenda) and Jeff (Cynthia); her grandchildren Josh (Kim), Celeste (Dallas), Lindsay (Joe), Kenzie (Hussein), Brendan, and Carson; and six great-grandchildren, Freya, James, Medina, Alice, River, and Zayn.  She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, John, Margaret, Agatha, Corny (Kay), Sue (Harold), Henry (Kay), Jake (Anne), Dave (Linda), and Betty. She will also be missed by Peter’s brothers and sisters, Sue, Anne (Walter), Elsie, Alice, Abe, Nell (Stan); and her sisters-in-law Leona, Rosie, and Doreen, along with many nephews and nieces, and many dear friends.

Helen was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth (who passed before Helen was born), her mother Susanna, her father Cornelius, brothers Abe and Rudy, and her in-laws, Ellie, Henry, Corny, Dennis, John, Fred, Kathy, and John.

A special thanks to the special care, love, and respect that the staff at Dulcina Hospice provided to Helen in her last days.
