Obituary of Almira Maria Pockar

June 18, 1943 - March 30, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce - while surrounded by her family that she dearly loved and loved her so much - Almira Pockar passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Almira left her family and friends as a young woman in Ceplis, Slovenia, in search of a better life in North America. She met a young man, Emil, in an immigration camp in Italy and grew close during their time together. Almira went to New York to live with her aunt while Emil joined his brothers in Calgary. They reconnected shortly thereafter and wed in 1966.

Almira’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, and she did everything she could to make their lives better in every way. Almira lived a happy life, full of travel, family, and the company of her many friends throughout her lifetime. She will be sorely missed for her humour, kindness, and generosity.

Almira was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Emil Pockar. She will be dearly remembered by her surviving sons Marko, Daniel (Franca) and Justin; as well as her loving grandchildren, Amanda and Ryan, and her sisters, Jozica and Milojka. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Mirko (Ann), sisters-in-law Maria (Kristjan) and Norma, along with many extended family members.

Her memory will be everlasting in those whose lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life for Almira will take place at Hamptons Golf Club (69 Hamptons Drive NW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
