Obituary of Doris Eileen Dalton

Doris Dalton of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the age of 94 years.

Doris was born on the family farm near McGee, SK on September 13, 1928. She moved to Calgary, AB after the war, where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Doris married Alfred Glen Dalton in 1953, and they remained married until Glen’s passing in 2018. She was a faithful member of the Anglican Church of Canada and devoted many volunteer hours in support of the church throughout her life. Doris’ personal life focused on her family, and her commitment never waivered. All were welcome at her dinner table, and she always had enough food for everyone.

Throughout her younger years, she was an avid seamstress and sewed and repaired many clothes for the kids.  Her other passion was baking which she continued until she and Glen moved into assisted living.  Mondays were always popular at home as it was “bread day”, and her fresh bread and cinnamon buns were epic! Christmas was also a memorable time for the vast array of “goodies.”

Doris was not a big traveller, but she and Glen did make trips to the Maritimes, the UK, and Hawaii. When the kids were younger, holidays consisted of camping in B.C. or weekend trips within Alberta.

Doris is survived by her daughter Debbie Helland and son-in-law Chris Helland of Sundre, AB, son Darrell and daughter-in-law Lorri of Sherwood Park, AB, seven grandchildren, Adam Dalton of Three Hills, AB, Luke Helland of Calgary, AB, Hayley Rae Helland of Olds, AB, Julia Helland of Salmon Arm, BC, Liam Dalton and Brett Dalton of Sherwood Park, AB, and Shelby Dalton of Portland, UK and three great-grandchildren, Mio, Evelyn and Oliver Dalton of Three Hills, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Glen, her brothers, Bud, Lloyd and Ken Moore, and her two sisters, Helen Searle and Joyce Moore. 

At Doris’ request, no funeral service will be held. Condolences, photos and memories may be shared and viewed here.
