Obituary of Joyce Annie Kimber


August 31, 1930 - April 2, 2023

 

Joyce Kimber of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the age of 92 years.

 

She was born in Exeter, ON, on August 31, 1930. She moved to Goderich, ON, Victoria, BC, Calgary, AB, and then Airdrie, AB. Joyce married Gordon Brown and had four children. Joyce then married Leslie Kimber.

 

She was a member of the Alberta Jewellery Travellers Association, The Bay’s Bridal Local 470, Teamsters Local 362, IATSE Local 212, and volunteered with The Bearspaw Golf Club Junior Program. Joyce accomplished much through her phenomenal life and was particularly proud of her jewellery business, modelling career, theatre, and film career.

 

Joyce’s most memorable vacations were travelling the world with Leslie, family trips to Palm Springs, California and Maui, Hawaii. She will be most remembered for her wittiness, humour, and her spirited and strong mind in any situation.

 

Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Fynn of Calgary, AB, and Valerie Brown of Cochrane, AB; one son Michael Brown of Cochrane, AB, and daughter-in-law Karen Brown of Calgary, AB; six grandchildren, Craig Marshall of Calgary, AB, Karmen Brown of Calgary, AB, Ashley Janzen of Airdrie, AB, Blair Brown of Calgary, AB, and Brendan Fynn (Christy Schueller) of Calgary, AB; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Janzen, and Natalie Janzen of Airdrie, AB, Levi Fynn, and Madison Fynn of Calgary, AB.

 

Joyce is also survived by her one brother and two sisters-in-law, John and Mary Simmons in London, ON, and Doris Simmons in Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joyce was predeceased by ex-husband Gordon Brown, husband Leslie Kimber, son Robert Brown, mother Irene Simmons, father Clarence Simmons, brother Melville Simmons, and grandson Clint Marshall.

 

Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Joyce’s service streamed live on the day of the service at www.MHFH.com. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed there.
