Obituary of Joanne Christine Canning

June 20, 1934 – Southall, England

April 3, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Joanne Canning, beloved wife of the late Robert Canning of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the age of 88 years.

Joanne was born in Southall, Middlesex, England on June 20, 1934. She married the love of her life, Robert, on December 24, 1955, in England. The loving couple had their first child, Clayton, in 1963 before immigrating to Canada in 1965. They settled in the Weston neighbourhood of Toronto and had their second child, Mark, in 1966. It was not long until they moved again, this time to Vancouver, and their third son, Grant, was born in 1971. There was one more move in 1980 to Calgary where Joanne would spend the rest of her life.

Joanne was beloved by everyone who knew her. Her warmth, smile and charm affected everyone she encountered. Joanne was a loving mother, sister and sister-in-law who had a love for life and was always willing to help others and put their needs ahead of her own.

She is survived by her son Mark who lives in Calgary, Alberta and her son Grant and daughter-in-law, Cassie Spencer, who live in Banff, Alberta.

Joanne is also survived by her sister, Carole, and her two brothers Leonard and Brian and their respective families who all reside in Australia. On Robert’s side of the family, Joanne is survived by her sisters-in-law Doris, Nancy, Diane and Anna and the many members of their families.

She was pre-decreased by her husband and oldest son as well as Robert’s brothers and brothers-in-law Jack, James, David, Gerald, Ken, Don and Joe, sisters-in-law Betty, Patricia, Olive, and her nephews Kevin and Gary.
