Obituary of Frances Colleen Iozzi

December 6, 1929 – Mersea Township, Ontario

April 4, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts and acceptance, we announce that our hero, Frances ‘Colleen’ Iozzi of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 93 years.

Colleen is survived by her four children, Deborah (Dennis), David (Nancy), Darlene (Kevin) and Deneen, two grandchildren, Tiernan and Reanne (Curtis), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, parents, Harry (Pauline) and Mary (Buck), brother, Jim (Helen), and granddaughter, Holly.

Colleen was guided in all things by her faith and embodied charity and forgiveness. Throughout her life, she was generous with her time and care, from volunteering at her children’s school, a local theatre, and her parish to babysitting her grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit. As a young woman, she found her way across the country alone before settling in Calgary and starting a family, to whom she was deeply devoted. She was never afraid to try new things: even later in life, she returned to work, enjoyed travel, and learned to skydive and ride a motorcycle.

She loved reading and music (especially country), and could often be found dancing in the kitchen. She frequently attended concerts and plays with her family and friends. She took great pleasure in building and fixing things, and was talented with a needle and thread. She spent many peaceful hours working in her garden and watching birds play in the birdbath. She cared for animals, most of all dogs, whose company she enjoyed throughout her life.

Her home was filled with joy and laughter, the site of countless family dinners and gatherings. With infinite cheer and an infectious smile, Colleen warmed hearts everywhere she went, right until the end. We were blessed to have the best mother, mother-in-law, and Nonnie that anyone could have wished for.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the fabulous healthcare professionals who cared for Colleen over the past several months. We know that she appreciated their kind care as well.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a viewing at McInnis & Holloway Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre St N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Canadian Martyrs Church (835 Northmount Dr NW, Calgary, AB T2L 0A3) on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
