Obituary of Terry Lanette Ridley

November 15, 1939 - Calgary, Alberta

April 4, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Terry Ridley of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the age of 83 years.

She was born in Calgary, AB when it was a small place and everyone knew each other. She enjoyed camping with her family and activities with CGIT both in Calgary and at Camp Kasota in Sylvan Lake. When she lived on 12th Avenue, there was a mean boy on the street that she would chase away from the other children. She attended Connaught School, Sunalta and CCI (Calgary Collegiate Institute). She is one of the rare people who can actually play accordion.

She moved to Stettler in 1962 with her husband, Jack Snodgrass where they raised three children. She stayed home with the kids until 1973 and then went to work as an accountant, earning her CGA accreditation in the evenings.

The cottage at Buffalo Lake was a favorite place to spend the summers. Terry and Jack were involved in many community service groups and bridge clubs. Her love of travel began with Kinsmen conventions in Rimini, Italy, and Edinborough, Scotland. Through her life, she experienced African safaris, Mexican resorts, a bus tour to the Maritimes and several cruises. Terry travelled to Cuba, Europe, Morocco, Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam, and the Bahamas. She sustained this by renting out her basement to tenants. Even when her knees and hips let her down, she found ways to get out in the world. Her Cuba trip included a ride up a big hill in the back of a cabbage wagon to get to the cathedral.

She moved to Calgary in 1979. She worked at an accounting firm, a car dealership and a daycare company. She spent many hours in her garden creating a peaceful oasis in her back yard. She had several close friends that she travelled with, played bridge with, and visited many garden centers. Terry visited her grandchildren in British Columbia and always brought games and activities. When they visited her in Calgary, she was a great tour guide. Her later years were quieter, but she played bridge and attended many jazz, big band, and choir concerts with her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Cathy.

She will be greatly missed by her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Cathy and their family, Ben (Noriko), Willow (Curtis), Andrew Fenton, Sharon (Jared) White, Patrick (Leslie) Fenton and their families; sister Marvey Gallagher and her family Shelley Gallagher (Brent Podiluk), Patrick and their families; son and daughter-in-law, David and Karalee Greer and their children, Jocelyn (Daniel), Kevin (Carly), and Allen (Bonita); daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Peter Davies and their children, Melissa (Cole) Bell, and Megan; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Kevin Stewart and their children, Dani and Tyler; and her grandchildren Keray (Ashley) and Keshia (Mischa Boer) and great-grandchildren, Kenzi and Zayden.

She was predeceased by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Brenda Snodgrass and her grandson Owen Davies.

As per Terry’s wishes, there will be no service, but the family will gather later to celebrate her life. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.   If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family is so grateful for the care Terry received at the South Health Campus, especially the doctors and nurses on Unit 58. The compassion shown to their patients, as well as the patient’s families, was much appreciated.
