Debbie Ledene

Obituary of Debbie Ann Ledene

January 30, 1957 - May 4, 2023

Calgary, Alberta

Sadly, at the young age of 66, after a long and courageous battle with cancer Debbie Ledene (Mama D), beloved mother of Meranda Tennant, Misty Ledene, and Jodie Ledene, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Debbie was an extraordinary motivator to the entire family and will continue to be an immeasurable inspiration to her grandchildren, George Caplette and Alexander Ledene as well as everyone who knew her.

There is some comfort in knowing that Mama D has gone to forge a path and prepare a place for us to all meet again. In the meantime, Debbie will be deeply missed by the entire family including her dear friend, and partner David Campbell.

Debbie was born in Calgary, Alberta but spent much of her youth and early adulthood in Saskatchewan where she created and maintained many deep friendships throughout her life.

In business, Debbie was a valued partner at D.C. & Associates Realty, Elsie Capital Group and Reds Diner. She also enjoyed a variety of activities including fishing, and gardening to name just two favorites. Debbie was a huge music fan. Everyone who knew Debbie knew of her love for music. Debbie also deeply cherished her many wonderful memories and vacations in the sun at the beach with her family. Whales and dolphins brought Debbie a deep sense of peace and joy. As a family, we will never forget swimming with the dolphins. It was magic for her and the family. That said, Debbie was most happy and completely in her glory when she was with her grandsons who she loved deeply.

Debbie was predeceased by her mother Jaqueline (Tinker) Helle and father Stan Ledene.

A Celebration of Debbie's Life will be announced soon. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

To all who knew her, Debbie will be most remembered for her personal strength, amazing sense of humour and deep love of family. She was truly Mama D to everyone who knew her.

The family would like to send our most sincere gratitude to John Olver who was an angel in disguise right to the very end. Words cannot describe how much we appreciate John's help through this difficult time. The family would also like to extend our appreciation to the Alberta Health Services Palliative home care team. They provided compassionate care and assistance beyond anything we could have hoped for during this difficult transition.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that you donate in Debbie’s name to any charity in support of women in need.

Mama D gave her daughters inspiration and hope, always.

Right now she’d say…..

“A strong woman looks a challenge dead in the eye and gives it a wink.”

In living memory of Debbie Ledene, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
