Patricia Elliott

Obituary of Patricia Angeline Elliott

September 29, 1935 – London, Ontario

April 7, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Patricia Elliott (nee Hager), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the age of 87 years.

Pat was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to her family.  She raised her seven children with patience, kindness, respectfulness, and acceptance of others, always listening and providing sage advice.  She delighted in dawning her red, fur trimmed winter coat and black leather gloves and taking her children in hand to appointments, shopping, and outings.  She was happiest at family gatherings.  Her favorite memories as a child were spending time at her grandfather’s home on Meadowlily Road in London and she continued to enjoy time spent there with her own children.  She had a cheeky good sense of humor, enjoyed a good thunderstorm, walking in the light spring rain and lilac bushes in full bloom.

Pat enjoyed her work at the Income Tax office in her younger years.  She was a pioneer of the Block Parents Association, worked with challenged students at Lester B. Pearson school, and spent many years doing volunteer work with the Catholic Church enjoying the dance party’s and bazaar sales that she helped organize.  She was also a wonderful source for family and London history.

Making a beautiful home and tending her amazing gardens on Elm St. full of marigolds, four o’clocks, pansies and lily of the valley, Pat made her family’s world beautiful, safe, loving and wanting for nothing.  She had such a natural skill caring for children, everyone was welcome, and all the neighborhood kids enjoyed her backyard the most. Every Christmas and holiday time was full of enthusiasm, the smell of the best home cooked meals and her favorite chocolates always nearby.  She enjoyed the company of others in social connection.  She shared her wisdom with all to be kind, play nice, share, have fun and “hurry up and wait.”   With charm and grace, under the sign of Libra, in which the seasons are balanced, she was strong and stoic in the face of adversity with a desire for harmony amongst all.

Pat bravely moved to Calgary in 1981 with her husband and 3 of her younger children seeking growth and opportunities where she enjoyed the beautiful mountains and the attractions of Calgary such as Heritage Park, The Calgary Zoo and cheering on the 1980’s Calgary Flames and when everyone else was shouting “SHOOT” the puck, she would be shouting “AIM”!   She enjoyed her time working in food preparations for the Home Oil cafeteria in Calgary, endearing herself to co-workers and executives alike.

In retirement Pat would set out Saturday mornings with Tim’s coffee in hand, riding shotgun in the van with her husband Tom, navigating back alleys to find church and garage sales seeking treasures.  Patricia’s hobbies and crafts included puzzles, needlepoint, dancing, and reading.  She loved music, especially Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Harry Belafonte, Tom Jones, Kenny Rogers, Neil Diamond and had her own little collection of vinyl records.

Pat was aware of and grateful for all the opportunities in her life, for all the support of her family throughout her life and is at peace knowing all her children can take care of themselves.

Patricia is survived by her children, Barbara Barclay, Donna Rohl, Michael Elliott (Char), Patrick Elliott (Mary), Daniel Elliott (Lori), Leah Robbins; her grandchildren, Crystal, Amanda, Casey, Allan, Melissa, Anita, Kira, Kimberly, Katrina, Hannah, Heather; fourteen great-grandchildren, her brother Ted Hager, sister Donna Hager and brother Joe Hager, as well as numerous extended family members.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband Thomas Elliott, son David Elliott, grandson David Johnson and son-in-law Ron Barclay.
